Designed and built website with new custom design. Planned and implemented social media promotions on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Meetup. Managed marketing and promotion for all events, through the design and production of advertising, posters, printed outreach materials, social media campaigns, email announcements, and co-promotion with other NPOs.

Designed, laid out, photographed and wrote content for bimonthly newsletter, distributed in both print and digital formats. Recorded a bimonthly podcast interview for each newsletter. Launched a portal website for the community, with a unified calendar of events from other local websites and social media.


2012-present: Web Developer and Graphic Designer (Freelance/Contract)

Created a stream of book cover designs, e-books, logo designs, branding and identity packages, print advertisements, blogs, festival programs, music CD booklets, and World War II battlefield maps.

Built, upgraded and updated websites and e-commerce solutions for companies and NPOs using HTML, CSS, WordPress and other content management systems. Created or produced additional materials and assets, including logos, business cards, advertising, display banners, and on-site photography and video. Built a website with e-commerce from scratch for an Austin toy seller with three days deadline, in time for Black Friday of 2012.


2013-2015: Webmaster, Instructor
Launch Pad Job Club NPO • Austin, Texas

Organized and led job club meetings and supported other staff in their roles. Instructed over 100 job seekers in seminars on WordPress, guiding participants from a point of no prior experience to building a functioning website in four hours. Designed the logo and graphics for affiliated NPO, Leap To Success. Recruited several workers for other Leap to Success projects. Managed website, weekly content and other info for the Launch Pad Job Club website, introduced new features, and kept the WordPress software current.


2011-2012: Marketing Production Manager
Digital River Education Services • Austin, Texas

Managed the production schedule for a staff of four on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis. I determined deadline, hour and staffing requirements for each project. Tracked project progress rates and weekly completion statistics.

Designed and built two 50+ page catalogs (with two brands each) four times a year, including optimizing and/or creating imagery, editing and/or writing description copy, and insuring accurate pricing, savings and product SKU information for each product. Coordinated revisions and approvals for paid placements with partners, affiliates and manufacturers. Managed the flightchecking, pre-production and proof approval process while coordinating with the catalogs' printing company.

Managed the weekly email blasts, on a six month assignment, for eight different channels, including designing and building each email blast in HTML. Checked accessibility criteria for the websites of each of three brands.

Designed and created posters, bookmarks, web banner ads, tradeshow signage, flyers, email graphics, web graphics, and digital display artwork for four major brands plus over a dozen different universities.


2007-2011: Graphic Designer

Fifteen contract assignments at six companies over three years, including 3M, Freescale and Stratfor Global Intelligence.

Designed, edited and updated nearly forty multimedia presentations for the seminars given at technology forums.

Created packaging materials, product sheets and print advertisements, frequently with complex product feature grids. Created and edited technical documents and white papers for manufacturing, construction and scientific customers. Converted large technical documents with text, tables, and figures into print- and web-ready documents.

Posted and updated web content using intranets and proprietary content management systems. Maintained large libraries of media assets for website and print usage.


1998-2007: Art Director
WXLV-TV/WMYV-TV • Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Restructured the art department as the single-point graphics resource for all other departments, serving as liaison between promotions, production, sales, and news, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships between them, and working independently or with a group.

Managed and performed information and communications tasks for multiple assignments simultaneously, with hourly, daily, weekly and monthly timescales, while coordinating with the four major departments. Created almost every design for all graphics needs of the two stations: written documents, publications, and reports, posters, print and outdoor advertising, direct mail, promotional merchandise, marketing materials, on-air animations, news graphics, and special projects.

Launched two ground-up redesigns of the news graphics package, and three graphics packages for rebranding station identities. Worked extensively in coordinating the development of printed and web materials in promoting and marketing the TV stations to the community, including advertising with other media, working with charity, presentations to corporate partners, and appearances at entertainment and public events.
